Archiving and Managing Agent Lifecycle

Last updated: July 22, 2026

Use agent lifecycle controls to create, configure, pause, and retire Marketing Agents. Archive only when you are certain the agent and its historical analytics are no longer needed.

  1. Read the removal and analytics warning before proceeding.

  2. Select Archive Agent only when the permanent lifecycle change is intended; otherwise select Cancel.

Agent Lifecycle

A typical agent lifecycle looks like this:

  1. Create the agent from Marketing Agent Configuration.

  2. Configure the agent across the Agent, Knowledge, Analysis and Actions, Widget, and Deploy tabs.

  3. Activate or pause the agent with the agent-level toggle.

  4. Preview major changes before sending visitors to the agent.

  5. Archive the agent when it should be permanently retired.

Active, Draft, and Paused Agents

Use the Agents dashboard to review agent cards, search for an agent, and open its configuration page.

The public Docket help article states that agent cards show status and recent metrics. A Draft status means the agent is still being configured and is not yet live on your website.

Use the toggle at the top of the agent configuration page to control whether an agent is active. Pausing an agent with the toggle is the safer choice when you may need the agent again.

When to Archive

Archive an agent only when:

  • The campaign, page, or audience is no longer active.

  • The agent should be permanently removed from deployed experiences.

  • You no longer need its historical analytics in the dashboard.

  • You have copied or preserved any configuration details you may need later.

Archive an Agent

  1. Open Marketing Agent Configuration.

  2. Select the agent you want to retire.

  3. Open the Agent tab.

  4. Scroll to Archive Agent.

  5. Click Archive Agent.

  6. Review the confirmation carefully. Select Archive Agent to proceed or Cancel to leave the agent unchanged.

The live app describes this action as permanently archiving the agent and all associated settings.

What Happens After Archiving

The public Docket help article states that archiving is permanent. After archiving:

  • The agent is disabled.

  • The agent is removed from deployed websites and standalone pages.

  • Agent analytics are removed from the dashboard.

  • The archived agent cannot be recovered from the platform.

Before You Archive

Check

Why it matters

Do you still need analytics?

Archive removes the agent's analytics from the dashboard.

Is the agent deployed anywhere?

Replace or remove links, scripts, or campaign references before retiring it.

Do you need the configuration later?

Copy reusable instructions, CTA logic, or setup notes before archiving.

Could pausing be enough?

Use the active toggle if this is a temporary pause.

Verify the Lifecycle Change

Before committing, select Cancel in the confirmation dialog and confirm the agent remains available. This verifies that you can review the warning without changing the agent.

When an authorized owner intentionally completes the archive:

  1. Return to Marketing Agent Configuration.

  2. Confirm the archived agent is no longer available in the workspace.

  3. Check every website, campaign, and standalone link that previously referenced the agent.

  4. Confirm stakeholders understand that the agent's dashboard analytics are no longer available.

The archive is complete only when the agent has been removed from the workspace and all external references have been handled.

Troubleshooting

Issue

What to check

You cannot find Archive Agent

Open the agent's Agent tab and scroll to the final Archive Agent section.

The confirmation dialog was opened accidentally

Select Cancel. Opening the dialog alone does not archive the agent.

You are unsure whether to continue

Select Cancel and use the agent-level active toggle for a reversible pause.

The agent was archived but is still referenced externally

Remove or replace website, campaign, and standalone-page references to the archived agent.

Best Practices

  • Prefer pausing over archiving when the decision is reversible.

  • Archive only after the campaign owner confirms the agent is no longer needed.

  • Review active deployments before archiving.

  • Preserve useful instructions or configuration details before completing the action.
