Getting Started with Docket Marketing Agent

Last updated: September 17, 2026

A Docket Marketing Agent talks to the people already on your website. It answers product questions, picks up who the visitor is and what they need, and moves the good ones towards a meeting or your sales team, instead of leaving them to fill in a form.

This guide walks you through setting up your first agent: where everything lives, what order to do it in, and how to tell when it is ready for real visitors.

Where do you set up a Marketing Agent in Docket?

Open Marketing Agent Configuration from the left sidebar. That takes you to the Agents page, where every agent in your workspace lives and where new ones are created.

The sidebar shows icons only, so hover over an icon to see its name.

The Docket Agents page with the Marketing Agent Configuration sidebar icon, the Agents page title, the Build Your AI Agent header, the Create Agent button, the Search agents field, and the Your Agents list outlined.

You are in the right place when the page title reads Agents and the header reads Build Your AI Agent.

Which parts of Docket will you use?

AreaUse it for
Marketing Agent ConfigurationCreating agents and setting up how each one behaves.
Marketing Agent DashboardReviewing interactions, leads, meetings booked, and engaged visitors.
Knowledge SourcesAdding the files, web pages, and connected content your agents can draw on.
SettingsConnecting integrations such as Slack, Teams, Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Drive, and Zoom.

What is the setup order for your first agent?

  1. Create the agent from Marketing Agent Configuration.
  2. Add the content it should answer from in Knowledge Sources, then select those sources on the agent's Knowledge tab.
  3. Shape how it speaks and what it does, in Prompt Studio and on the Agent tab.
  4. Set up follow-up data and CRM sync under Analysis and Actions, if you need it.
  5. Style the widget and choose which pages it appears on, on the Widget tab.
  6. Switch the agent on and test it with Preview.
  7. Add the agent's script to your website from the Deploy tab.
  8. Watch how it performs in the Marketing Agent Dashboard.

Knowledge first is worth the discipline. An agent with the right sources needs far less correction later.

Which tabs will you see on your agent?

A Docket agent page with the Agent, Knowledge, Prompt Studio, Analysis and Actions, Widget, Demo, and Deploy tabs outlined.

Agents created on Docket's current version open with Agent, Knowledge, Prompt Studio, Analysis and Actions, Widget, Demo, and Deploy.

Agents created earlier show a shorter set, with an Agent Instructions section on the Agent tab instead of a Prompt Studio tab. Both continue to work, so if your workspace has agents of both kinds, the difference is only where you edit the wording.

How do you check your first agent is ready?

Before you send visitors to it, confirm that:

  • The agent opens from Your Agents with the name and status you expect.
  • Preview answers at least three common visitor questions using approved information.
  • The call to action, meeting booking, or handoff you set up appears when its condition is met.
  • The Widget tab reflects the appearance and page rules you intended.
  • The Deploy tab shows the installation option you plan to use.
  • After a test conversation, the Marketing Agent Dashboard shows activity for that agent.

Preview appears in the agent header once the agent is switched on. See Previewing an Agent Before Launch.

When should you create more than one agent?

Create a second agent when a different part of your site needs the agent to behave differently, not just to say something different. A pricing page that should qualify and book, and a docs page that should answer and stay out of the way, are two jobs.

One agent can already cover several pages through its knowledge selection and page-targeting rules. Start with a small number of high-impact agents and expand once you can see which pages perform. See Configuring Docket's Multi-Agent Platform.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Docket Marketing Agent actually do?

It holds a conversation with a website visitor by voice or text, answers from the sources you approved, captures context about who they are, and offers the next step you configured, such as booking a meeting or handing off to a person.

How long does it take to set up the first agent?

Creating the agent takes a few minutes, including the one to three minutes Docket needs to write its first prompt. Getting knowledge, behaviour, and deployment right is the part worth taking time over.

Do I need a developer to get started?

Not for building the agent. You will need someone who can add a script tag to your website when you are ready to deploy, and the Deploy tab can email those instructions to them.

Does my agent go live as soon as I create it?

No. New agents start as a Draft and only reach visitors once you switch them on and add the script to your pages.

Where do I add the content my agent answers from?

Add content once in Knowledge Sources, then choose which of it each agent may use on that agent's Knowledge tab. See Selecting Knowledge Sources for an Agent.

Can I try the agent without putting it on my website?

Yes. Switch the agent on and use Preview, or share the standalone page URL from the Deploy tab.

What is the Demo tab for?

It lets the agent give visitors a live, guided walkthrough of your product during a conversation, rather than only describing it.

Where do I see whether the agent is working?

Each agent card shows the last seven days at a glance, and the Marketing Agent Dashboard gives you interactions, leads, meetings booked, and conversation-level detail across agents.
