Selecting Knowledge Sources for an Agent
Last updated: July 28, 2026
Knowledge sources determine what information a Marketing Agent can use when answering visitor questions. Select sources that match the agent's purpose, audience, and page context.
Before You Start
You need access to app.docketai.com.
You need an existing Marketing Agent.
The source content should already be available in Docket Knowledge Sources.
Open Knowledge Source Settings
Open Marketing Agent Configuration.
Select the agent you want to configure.
Open the Knowledge tab.
In Knowledge Base, click Sources.

The Customize Sources picker shows the global source groups available to the agent. Search, select only the relevant groups, and click Apply.

Choose Sources for the Agent
Select the company and product information the agent should use in conversations.
Sources can come from uploaded files, web URLs, or connected integrations. A connected integration does not automatically mean every agent should use every synced source. Select only the content that supports this agent's job.
Choose sources based on the agent's job:
Agent type | Useful source focus |
|---|---|
Homepage agent | Broad product overview, positioning, key use cases, and high-level FAQs. |
Pricing or demo agent | Packaging, pricing guidance, qualification, demo prep, and sales-ready FAQs. |
Technical or implementation agent | Security, integrations, deployment, setup, and implementation details. |
Campaign agent | Campaign-specific pages, offers, case studies, and follow-up content. |
Keep Source Selection Focused
More sources are not always better. A focused set of relevant sources usually gives the agent clearer context than a broad set of loosely related material.
Avoid selecting sources that are outdated, internal-only, unrelated to the page, or likely to confuse the agent's answers.
Verify Source Selection
After changing knowledge sources:
Preview the agent.
Ask questions that should be answered from the selected sources.
Ask a few out-of-scope questions to confirm the agent does not overreach.
Adjust selected sources if answers are too broad, outdated, or missing important context.
The selection is ready when the agent answers expected questions from the chosen sources, follows your fallback behavior for out-of-scope questions, and does not use content from an unselected source group.
Best Practices
Match sources to the agent's specific page or campaign.
Remove outdated content before it affects answers.
Use separate agents when different audiences need different knowledge.
Revisit sources whenever the agent's goal changes.
Troubleshooting
Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
Agent gives broad answers | Narrow the selected sources to content that matches the agent's job. |
Agent misses expected information | Confirm the relevant source is available and selected for this agent. |
Agent uses outdated information | Remove or update old sources in Knowledge Sources, then retest. |
You do not see the source you need | Add or sync it from the global Knowledge Sources area first. |
